PUK rejects any justifications to postpone elections in Kurdistan Region
Erbil (IraqiNews.com) The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan announced its objection over postponing the elections in Kurdistan Region.
A statement by the PUK received by IraqiNews.com cited “Kosrat Rasul Ali, Vice-president of Kurdistan Region, received Josef Pennington, the US Consul General to Erbil.”
“In a meeting which was held at the office of Kosrat Rasul in Sulaimanya, the coming parliamentary election of Kurdistan Region were talked about. Mr. Kosrat said that postponing the elections is not reasonable and elections should be held at the exact time that Kurdistan Region parliament has voted for, which is September 21st.Mr. Josef also showed his government’s full support for succeeding the process of democratic elections in the region,” the statement added, noting that “The current security issues and the situation of Southern Iraq were also talked about in the meeting.”
“The situation of Kurds in Western Kurdistan was another part of the meeting. Mr. Kosrat Rasul asked the US government to officially condemn the terroristic plans held against Kurds in the west of Kurdistan, and he asked the US General Consul to take actions for helping the Kurdish innocent people who have left their homes and moved to the comps due to clashes between Assad’s regime and the opposition parties,” the statement pointed out.
“On his side, the US General Consul in Erbil announced that the US government has decided to give 44 million US dollars for the Kurdish immigrants who have left their homes. He also praised the role of Kurdistan RegionG for helping them,” the statement concluded.
