Sadr issues electoral honor document
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Shiite cleric Sayyid Muqtada al-Sadr issued on Tuesday an electoral document of honor. He gave an ultimatum of 10 days to each electoral candidate to sign the document that places Iraq’s independence and freedom as a primary target. “A candidate should be committed to serve the Iraqi people,” said a release posted online on the web site of the Martyr al-Sadr Office. It said that a candidate should not stand against the Resistance and liberation movements. “A candidate should not be a tool to promote foreign agendas,” the statement said. The online release stressed that Sadr will recommend any candidate who signs the document to hold parliamentary or governmental positions. Elections will occur in Iraq on March 7, 2010. MH (P) / SS 1
