Sadr: Qardhawi’s appeal to postpone Hashimi’s trial to complicate his case
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Head of the Sadr Trend, Muqtada al-Sadr, confirmed that the appeal of the head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Yusuf al-Qardhawi, to the President, Jalal Talabani, to interfere to solve the case of the judicially wanted Vice-President, Tariq al-Hashimi, will complicate his case.
In response to question by one of his followers over Qardhawi’s appeal, he said “Qardhawi’s appeal will complicate the case which has many hidden sides.”
A statement by Badr Organization received by Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) cited “It was better for Qardhawi to care for the people of Bahrain, who suffered from the crimes committed by the Saudi occupation against them, instead of defending a person presented for the courts for committing sectarian crimes.”
Earlier, a presidential statement quoted Qardhawi as saying, “The International Union of Muslim Scholars presents its compliments to your Excellency, wishing you more success in the development course in dear Iraq.”
The statement added “In order to preserve the supreme interest of the Republic of Iraq, government and people and prevent strife among Iraq’s communities and to avoid any sectarianism, we invite you to take more time in judging Hashimi till studying the case from all sides according to the national accord since it is the best way to settle all problems and disputes.”
The central Criminal Court has lifted Hashimi’s trail in absentia till the end of the May.
