Sadr to Maliki: Saving Shia to be accomplished by saving Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Sadr Trend, Muqtada al-Sadr, addressed the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, saying “Saving the Shia sect is to be accomplished by saving Iraq rather than saving some governmental figures.”

In response to a question by one of his followers over whether his visit to Kurdistan Region and his meeting with political figures who opposes the government is to weaken Shia, Sadr said “Due to some behaviors by the government, which denote dictatorship and monopolization, Iraq undergoes a very hard political crisis that negatively affects the Iraqis and weakens the Shia sect.”

“Shia sect became isolated from other Iraqi sides which might leave this sect alone facing the dictatorship that was the reason behind toppling the former regime,” he added.

“In order to avoid this isolation, I tried to consolidate the relations between the Shia and the Kurds in one hand and the Shia and the Sunni sect on the other hand,” he continued.

“I signed the agreement that involved nine points which did not contradict the Islam and the national rules,” he stressed.

“I call Maliki not to forget the bloods of the two dignified Martyrs, Sadrain,” he concluded.
