Sadr: Unity of Iraq more important than Maliki

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The leader of the Sadr Trend, Muqtada al-Sadr, assured that “The unity of Iraq is more important than the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki.”

In response to question by one of his followers over the call conducted by Basra Provincial Council’s chairman for announcing Central and Southern Provinces’ Region in case the political sides withdraw confidence from the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, Sadr said “He should understand that unity of Iraq is more important than, one person, Maliki.”

Southern provinces held a meeting to discuss the possibility of announcing the central and Southern Provinces Region in Basra province on Thursday.

Source from Basra PC stated to IraqiNews.com “The attendants of the meeting discussed the possibility of announcing the Central and Southern Provinces Region in case the political sides withdraw confidence from the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki.”

This meeting comes after some provinces including Basra, Dhi-Qar and Wassit threatened to announce their provinces as independent regions if the political sides withdrew confidence from the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki.
