Sadrist MP critisizes Iraqi Government’s reaction towards offending Prophet Mohamed
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Hussein al-Shirefi, of the Sadr Trend criticized “The weak reaction of the Iraqi Government and the Parliament towards the insult against the character of the Prophet Mohamed (peace be upon him).”
Shirefi said during a press conference held at the Parliament building and was attended by IraqiNews.com correspondent, on Saturday, that “It is regrettable to see that the Government and politicians of Iraq did not have but a weak and shy reaction for this shameful insult as if they were shy of the USA.”
He continued saying “What some Arab countries and even foreign States such as Libya, Yemen, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, and even Iran did is a praiseworthy step when they burned the US embassies in their countries while some countries broke their diplomatic relations with those embassies,” confirming that “We must be the first country to take such action.”
He called upon the Government and the Parliament to close the US embassy in Iraq which is regrettably the largest US embassy in the world and dismiss its Ambassador and not to merely denounce this offense,” pointing out that “If they are worried about their posts then they can remove this ominous embassy from the Green Zone and let the Iraqi people express their anger.”
