Shawis, Armenian Catholicos Karekin II discuss mutual relations
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Deputy Premier, Ruz Nouri Shawis, discussed with the current head of the Holy Armenian Apostolic Church, Catholicos Karekin II, the mutual relations.
A statement by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan cited on Monday “Shawis and the accompanied delegation met the Catholicos Karekin II in Armenia where they discussed the mutual relations.”
“Catholicos Karekin II welcomed Shawis and the accompanied delegation, wishing them the success in their visit to Armenia to develop the mutual relations, expressing his confidence that this visit will result in consolidating the bilateral relations in all fields,” the statement added.
“Catholicos Karekin II prayed to sustain stability and peace in Iraq in order to bring back its vital role in the region, appreciating the efforts the Iraqi government in rebuilding the Armenian Church in Iraq,” the statement pointed out.
The statement noted “Shawis conveyed the greetings of the President, Jalal Talabani, the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, the Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, and the President of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, for the People and Government of Armenia,” assuring that “Iraq is seriously working on preserving the benefits and freedom of all the sects and communities in Iraq.”
“Shawis assured that the Iraqi government and the Foreign Ministry will inaugurate an Iraqi embassy in Armenia soon,” the statement concluded.
