SIIC condemns Kirkuk bombing
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Shiite Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council denounced Thursday’s suicide bombing attack inside a restaurant in Kirkuk city, which left dozens killed or wounded, urging stricter measures by security agencies to “stand up against the gunmen”. “We strongly denounce the terrorist operation that targeted innocent civilians of our Iraqi people in the province of Kirkuk on Thursday,” according to a SIIC statement published on its official web site. While preparing for a visit by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, the city of Kiruk, 250 km northeast of Baghdad, was rocked by a suicide blast with an explosive belt that killed 45 people and wounded 105 others. The SIIC, in the statement issued by its culture & information office, considered this “sinful act as yet another proof that the takfirist terrorism and remnants of the former regime have finally realized they have no place on the lands of Iraq”.
