SRSG describes Bob al-Sham explosion as ‘horrific crime’

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Ad Melkert described the suicide explosion that took place in Bob al-Sham region in northern Baghdad as a horrific crime, according to an official statement. “Ad Melkert expressed his profound shock and sadness at the mass killing and wounding of innocent pilgrims heading to the city of Kabala, to participate in the religious rite of Arba’en,” said the statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. The SRSG described today’s suicide bombing as “a horrific crime committed against defenseless journeying pilgrims, practicing their faith”. “The SRSG extends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, expressing his support for the Iraqis in their resolve to continue advancing peace, stability and national reconciliation,” it added. A security source said that a female bomber blew herself up among a crowd of Shiite pilgrims who were heading to Karbala in Bob al-Sham area, northern Baghdad, killing and injuring scores of people.
