Syria advised to implement Arab League resolutions – Iraqiya bloc
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Al-Iraqiya Bloc expressed concerns with the developments in Syria, calling on the Syrian government to implement the Arab League‘s resolutions to avoid any foreign intervention. Spokeswoman Maysoon al-Damalouji said in a statement, received by IraqiNews.com, that the bloc, headed by Iyad Allawi, is “observing with great concern the developments in Syria.” It hoped that the Syrian government will “seriously respond to the Arab League‘s resolutions and resort to dialogue with opposing popular forces.” Yesterday, Arab foreign ministers adopted a series of sanctions against the Syrian government, but Iraq expressed reservations on them. Syrian cities have been witnessing protest demonstrations against President Assad‘s regime since last March. A UN report noted that more than 3500 persons have been killed during this period of unrest.
