UN Secretary-General to meet Barzani in Erbil
Erbil (BasNews) The UN Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Baghdad on Thursday to discuss the humanitarian situation with the Iraqi officials, particularly the crises resulted from the Mosul offensive.
Regarding the aim behind Guterres’ visit to Iraq as he said is “to focus on the dire humanitarian situation on the ground.”
“Protection of civilians must be the absolute priority,” he said.
Following his meetings with the Iraqi officials in Baghdad, the UN Secretary General is expected to head to Erbil on the same day where he is set to meet the Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani.
The pair will discuss a range of topics about the Kurdistan Region and the era after the elimination of the Islamic State (IS).
