Wassit Provincial Council dismisses governor
WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: The Wassit Provincial Council decided with a majority vote to dismiss the Wassit Governor, Lateef Hamad al-Turfa, after accusing him of corruption. “The council summoned al-Turfa and his answers were unconvincing,” a source from the council told IraqiNews.com news agency. He explained that 18 members attended the council’s session today, 17 of them voted to dismiss al-Turfa. The Wassit Provincial Council consists of 28 seats, 13 to them belong to the Dawlat al-Qanoon Alliance of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Al-Turfa is affiliated with this alliance. The council summoned al-Turfa according to three separate petitions submitted by the AL-Iraqiya Alliance, the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC), and the Sadr Movement.
