(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced on Tuesday, that he will give up his position if he is not able to protect citizens, stating that what happened in Anbar is a “psychological war.”

Abadi said in a speech while attending a meeting of the House of Representatives today, “The victories in Tikrit are historical, thanks to the consistency between the tribal fighters, the security forces and al-Hashad al-Sha’bi (the Volunteer Fighters),” noting that, “I will give up my position if I’m not able to protect citizens.”

Concerning what has happened in Anbar, Abadi said, “What happened in this province is a psychological war,” pointing out that, “Its promotion affects the situation of the soldiers and we must reduce the promoters.”

Abadi continued, “There is no decline in Anbar,” adding that, “Ramadi is still steadfast and the security forces in some cities of Anbar will be supported.”
