Youth movement calls for demonstration tomorrow
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A youth movement called for a demonstration tomorrow, Saturday, to commemorate the first anniversary of the protests which erupted a year ago “to end sectarianism, corruption and tyranny and to form a national salvation government to elect a constituent council that will write a new constitution.” The movement accused Premier Nouri al-Maliki of “tyranny,” calling on him to step down. Thousands of Iraqis took part in 25 February, 2011 demonstrations calling for political and administrative reforms and provision of basic services, mainly electricity. February-September Movement said in a statement received by IraqiNews.com, called for tomorrow’s demonstration. It stressed necessity for continued demonstrations, at intervals to be decided, though the government tried to inform the people that the demonstrations have ended. The statement added that efforts were made in different provinces to coordinate demonstrations efforts and adopting dialogue with national activities and exposing the conspiracies weaved by the government to divide the protestors at Tahareer Square. The movement added that “the Iraqi government increased its efforts to confiscate freedoms, arresting and imprisoning the innocent and the increase in employment and poverty”, charging Premier Maliki with “tyranny” who has “become a hindrance before the freedom of the Iraqi people” and demanding “to quit power”.
