Zebari: Fighting for Syria to threaten neutralism of Iraq
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, stated “Iraq is being pressurized by the two conflicting sides in Syria where the formal neutral stance of Iraq is being threatened due to changing the acting fight for Syria in the region.”
In a press conference, he assured “We are doing our best to have a neutral stance, but the pressures make us not to be able to continue the same stance.”
“Iraq is in the hardest situation due to the conflict in the region and Syria,” he added, noting that “Due to our understanding of the nature of the conflict, we have a stance that is for the interest of Iraq and not for the Syrian regime.”
“There is an exaggeration over the brigades of the military units fighting in Syria where they are few volunteers went to Syria without being permitted by the government or the political sides,” he pointed out, assuring that “Neither the Syrian regime nor the opposition control the situation in Syria and there is not international united stance where US and its allies want the Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, to leave Syria by arming the opposition and the Russia diplomatically supports Assad and by weapons as well”
“Without excreting efforts by the international community and the Security Council of the United Nations, the situation will be the same for a long time and no one can achieve victory,” he concluded.
