Parliamentarian discusses with national security adviser security agreement

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Head of the parliament’s foreign affairs committee on Thursday discussed with National Security Adviser Muwafaq al-Rubaei the latest security developments and the ongoing talks on security agreement with the U.S., a statement said. “Sheikh Hamam Hamoudi discussed with National Security Adviser Muwafaq al-Rubaei the security developments in Iraq and the ongoing talks on the long-term security agreement with the U.S.,” said the statement released from Hamoudi’s office and received by IraqiNews.com. The two countries have been negotiating an agreement for most of this year to replace a U.N. mandate that expires at the end of the year. At least two major issues are standing in the way of a deal. One is who would prosecute American soldiers accused of crimes and whether the agreement would include a timetable for a U.S. withdrawal. The statement quoted Hamoudi as saying that “security and military work should take into consideration human rights. Hamoudi is a member of the United Iraqi Alliance (UIA) which keeps 83 seats out of the 275-seat parliament. SH (S) 1
