Sadrist MP dies of wounds before brain surgery

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Sadrist MP Saleh al-Eikeli died in the hospital of wounds he sustained from the explosion that targeted his car in eastern Baghdad, the spokesman for the Sadrist bloc said on Thursday. “Saleh al-Eikeli died before undergoing a surgery to stop bleeding in his brain,” Ahmed al-Massoudi told IraqiNews.com. A medical source had said earlier that the Shiite lawmaker fell into a comma because of bleeding in his brain and will undergo a surgery to stop it. “Doctors in al-Jumla al-Asabiya hospital will perform a delicate surgery in his brain to stop the internal bleeding which led him to fall into a coma,” the source told IraqiNews.com. Al-Massoudi held the U.S. forces responsible for the assault against its lawmaker Saleh al-Eikeli. Earlier, a medical source said a Sadrist lawmaker was seriously injured on Thursday in a bomb explosion in eastern Baghdad. “Saleh al-Eikeli was injured and his bodyguard was killed when the explosive charge went off near al-Habibiya exhibitions in eastern Baghdad,” the source told IraqiNews.com.
