4-way alliance resumes meetings in Baghdad

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: The quadruple alliance met on Saturday as part of a series of meetings to discuss pending issues in a bid to reach solutions, according to a release by the Iraqi Kurdistan region’s presidency. “The meeting was convened in the attendance of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Vice President Adel Abdelmahdi, Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barazani and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki,” read the release as received by IraqiNews.com. The two main Kurdish parties – Talabani’s Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Barazani’s Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) – had signed in August 2007 a deal called the Quadruple Agreement, which also involved two key Shiite organizations – Abdelaziz al-Hakim’s Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC) and Maliki’s Dawa Party.
