75 families return to Wassit in October

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: A total of 75 families have returned to their places of origin in Wassit’s district of al-Suwayra throughout this month, a local security source said on Sunday. “The families returned after the whole area has been secured and terrorists driven out,” the source told IraqiNews.com, noting that army personnel and Support Council members have taken full control of the area. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province. SS (P) 1
