Kut-Civilians WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi security forces on Monday arrested a military man who was attempting to kill a civilian in central Kut, a security source said. “Security forces arrested a person, wearing a military uniform, who was trying to kill a civilian in al-Imam neighborhood in central Kut,” the source told IraqiNews.com. “The detainee is now under investigation,” he added, without giving further details. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province. SH (P)/SR 1
