MNF says detained 5 Special Groups members in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Multi-National Division – Baghdad soldiers detained five “suspected Special Groups criminals Oct. 23” in the Rashid district of southern Baghdad, according to an MNF statement on Friday. “At approximately 2 a.m., Soldiers from Troop C, 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, conducted a cordon and search operation in Abu T’shir,” read the statement as received by IraqiNews.com. “The Soldiers detained four individuals for spray-painting special groups graffiti in Abu T’shir. The patrol delivered the suspects to a Coalitions forces base for processing.” The U.S. army lends the name Special Groups to men it accuses of receiving support and training from Iran to conduct attacks against Iraqi and U.S. forces. “At approximately 3:15 a.m., Soldiers of Company B, 4th Battalion, 64th Armor Regt., attached to the 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div., conducted raid in the Risalah community and detained a suspected Special Groups financier operating in the Rashid district,” the statement added. “The suspect is believed to be responsible for financing weapons and resources used for attacks against Coalition and Iraqi Security Forces. The patrol returned to a CF combat outpost with the suspect to conduct additional questioning.” AmR (S) 1
