Foundation stone laid for engineering faculty in Wassit

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: The foundation stone of a new engineering faculty in Wassit University was laid on Saturday, the university’s media chief said. “Today, the president of Wassit University, Jawad al-Mousawi, laid the foundation stone of an engineering faculty at the university campus in Kut’s neighborhood of al-Rabei,” Hamid al-Mayahi told IraqiNews.com. The project, whose total cost is 7.335 billion Iraqi dinars (1 U.S. dollar = 1,118 Iraqi dinars), is scheduled to be completed within 600 days, Mayahi noted. Wassit University hosts nine faculties: Medicine, Engineering, Science, Education, Administration and Economy, Arts, Law, Agriculture, and Basic Education. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province. SS (P) 1
