Iraqi army seize weapons cache in Babel

BABEL/IraqiNews.com: Iraqi army forces on Sunday discovered a weapons cache in Babel, a security source said. “Iraqi army forces seized a huge cache stashed under palm trees in al-Bu Alwan village of Mahawil district, 12 km north Hilla,” a Babel military source told IraqiNews.com. “The cache contained a large number of roadside bombs, light and medium weapons along with munitions,” he noted. Iraq took control of the central Shiite province of Babel from US forces on Thursday, in what local officials said was further sign of security gains across the war-torn nation. Babel, known for its ancient archaeological treasures but also a string of bloody attacks on Shiite pilgrims in the aftermath of the 2003 US-led invasion, is the 12th of the country’s 18 provinces to be transferred by United States forces to Baghdad’s command.
