Minorities in elections bill test bloc’s belief in democracy – Christian MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Christian lawmaker, Yonadim Kena, on Wednesday said that the issue of representing minorities in provincial elections bill is considered as a test for the big parliamentary blocs’ belief in a democratic, rather than religious, state in Iraq, warning not to amend the United Nations’ (UN) proposal in this regard. “A number of amendments on the UN’s proposal that are demanded by some political blocs are unacceptable and far from democracy,” Kena told IraqiNews.com. “If the UN’s proposal remains as it is, then we accept it,” he said. “If some sides tried to minimize minorities’ size of representation, then we will reject this issue,” he added.
