Christians should have proper representation – parliament’s speaker

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Speaker of the Iraqi council of representatives, Mahmoud al-Mashahadani, on Tuesday said that Christians are an essential component in Iraq, and they should have “proper” representation. “The Christian component will remain, as it was before and after Islam, and we should be keen to achieve this through representatives elected by people, and that this representation should be suitable,” al-Mashahadani said when he received the head of Christian Solidarity Worldwide Organization, and members of Hamurobey Organization for Human Rights and Democracy Monitoring. “Christians in Iraq do not need a quota, because they acquire love and respect by all,” he said. “There is no fear on Christians in Iraq, and there is no danger on them, because they are Iraq’s original residents,” he noted.   MH (P)/SR   1
