Cabinet will specify provincial elections date – IECI

Iraq-Kirkuk BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Head of the electoral administration in the Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq (IECI) on Monday said that the final official date to carry out the provincial elections will be announced by the council of representatives. “The provincial elections law gives the IECI the right to suggest a date to carry out the elections,” Qassim al-Ibodi told IraqiNews.com. “The IECI suggested to Premier Nouri al-Maliki that date of provincial elections would be on January 31, 2008,” he said. “The same law offered the right to specify when the provincial elections would occur to the council of representatives, relying on the IECI suggestion,” he added.
