IECI receives request to establish Basra region

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq (IECI) – Basra office delivered the province’s request to establish Basra region to the commission’s head office in Baghdad, Wael Abdullateef, an independent lawmaker, said on Saturday. “It would be recognized that two percent of Basra people submitted the request,” Abdullateef said in a press conference in Baghdad that was attended by IraqiNews.com. “If we feel that any authority is intervening in this issue, then we will put it in the hands of the federal court,” he said. “The IECI should use media to announce the request within three days,” he added.
