42 people arrested in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi security forces arrested 42 persons and defused 250 bombs in separate areas of Baghdad in the past 24 hours, the spokesman for the Baghdad operations command said on Wednesday. “The forces arrested 18 wanted men and 24 suspected gunmen, defused 250 bombs and found amounts of weapons and ammunitions in separate areas of the Iraqi capital in the past 24 hours,” General Qassem Atta told IraqiNews.com. “Five security elements were injured during the operations,” he added. “A total of 96 displaced families have returned to their houses in Baghdad,” Atta also said. Since February 2007, Iraqi security forces have launched a large scale operation dubbed as Fardh al-Qanoon (Law Imposing) to crack down on gunmen and to assert the rule of law in Baghdad and its suburbs.
