AQI cell disrupted in Diala

DIALA / IraqiNews.com: The police forces disrupted a cell of al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) responsible for home-making and detonating improvised explosive devices during a search raid conducted in western Baaquba city on Friday, a senior security official said. “Policemen arrested all three members of an AQI cell during an operation carried out in al-Katoun neighborhood, (3 km) western Baaquba,” the Diala police chief, Maj. General Abdelhussein al-Shimari, told IraqiNews.com. “The cell members are suspected of involvement in home-making and detonating IEDs in different areas of Diala,” he added. Earlier on Friday, Shimari said an AQI emir (leader) was captured for suspected involvement in a car bombing attack that targeted the local council building in Baaquba nearly a month ago. Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
