Draft law presented to Kurdish parliament to criminalize female circumcision

Iraq-Circumcision ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: Female lawmaker in Kurdistan’s parliament on Tuesday said that she, along with a group of lawmakers, presented a draft law to criminalize female circumcision within the parliamentary efforts to face violence against women. “The Kurdish parliament is studying the phenomenon of violence against women, so we prepared two bills in this respect; the first regarding banning and criminalizing female circumcision, while the second is about the violence against women in general,” Hala Suheel told IraqiNews.com. She expected to debate the two draft laws during the new legislative term as of the next year. Last year, Parliament announced a campaign to face the violence against women in Kurdistan region on the occasion of the international day for the elimination of violence against women. SH (P)/SR 2
