Private sector demands role in decision making process

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The conference of the Iraqi chambers of commerce closed on Wednesday amidst calls by private sector representatives to have a major role in the economic decision-making process. “The private sector should take part in the formation of legislative items and the making of decisions that regulate economic activities in the country,” Abdelsalam al-Qaisi, one of the participants at the conference and a major economy player, told IraqiNews.com. Yesterday, the 4 th conference of the Iraqi chambers of commerce opened in the capital Baghdad in an initiative to boost the role of the private sector in the reconstruction and investment processes. The two-day conference was held under the auspices of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki; and the Iraqi minister of trade, Abdelfalah al-Sudani, and was attended by several members of the Iraqi chambers of commerce. Seven pieces of research on investment opportunities in Iraq were presented at the conference. SS (P) 1
