Diwaniya governor threatens peaceful march to claim compensations

DIWANIYA / IraqiNews.com: Diwaniya Governor Hamed al-Khodari on Saturday threatened the central government to stage a peaceful demonstration to claim compensations for the military operations that occurred in the province. “We will stage massive peaceful marches against the central government if the cabinet fails to respond to the province’s claims for compensations for the military operations in the province,” Khodari told IraqiNews.com. The province of al-Diwaniya, 180 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, has been subject to financial losses and destruction of local residents’ houses due to the military operations and attacks by armed groups. “We have demanded the cabinet, ministers and members of parliament to respond to our demands and equalize us to other Iraqi provinces that were compensated after the end of military operations there,” he said. “We have got bored of the government’s ignoring of our requests,” Khodari added.
