12 IEDs defused in Missan

MISSAN / IraqiNews.com: The Missan police defused 12 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) south of the city of al-Amara on Sunday, according to a security spokesman. “Bomb squad personnel dismantled 10 IEDs that were ready for detonation in the area of Umm Smeij, Qalaat Saleh district, (45 km) south of Amara,” Col. Sadeq Sallam told IraqiNews.com. “Intelligence tip-offs indicated that there were charges under a sand hill in Umm Smeij. They turned out to be shells of a 155 mm. cannon, whose heads were linked together by means of an electric wire and covered by adhesive tape to prevent humidity,” Sallam said. Meanwhile, he added, personnel from the outside road protection department defused two IEDs planted on the main road that links al-Majar al-Kabir district, (40 km) south of Amara, to Qalaat Saleh. Amara, the capital city of Missan province, lies 390 km south of Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
