Govt. postpones compensations for displaced people of Talkeef – official

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi government on Sunday postponed compensations for the displaced families of the Talkeef district, Ninewa province, for two months more, according to the district’s local council chief. “The compensations, which were supposed to be released for the displaced Arab families in early December, were postponed to February 1, 2009,” Dirman Hadji told IraqiNews.com. “The postponement was due to the government’s wish that the compensations would include all the areas concerned,” he said. Hadji pointed out that the compensations hit 10 million Iraqi dinars per each family displaced from Talkeef and 25 million Iraqi dinars for each family brought from other areas to be settled in the district in accordance with the “Arabization policy that had been practiced by the former regime”. Talkeef lies 15 km north of the city of Mosul, the capital of Nienwa province, 405 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
