INDC rejects speaker’s resignation

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Head of the Iraqi National Dialogue Council (INDC) Khalaf al-Alyan on Tuesday expressed his bloc’s rejection to the resignation of Iraq ‘s Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani. “The INDC rejects the resignation and asserts that the reform document must include the parliament’s chairmanship,” al-Alyan told IraqiNews.com. “In case there is a voting on sacking al-Mashhadani. The INDC will present its candidates to replace him,” he added. MP from the United Iraqi Alliance (UIA) Rezza Jawad Taqi had said earlier that Iraq’s Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani agreed to present his resignation, stipulating selecting a replacement from the Iraqi Accord Front (IAF) during the same session. A number of Iraqi parliamentarians retracted their calls for Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani’s resignation. Mashhadani is a member of the National Dialogue Council, led by Sheikh Khalaf al-Alyan, which is one of the components of the Sunni Iraqi Accord Front (IAF).   SH (P)/SR 1
