4 vital facilities guards wounded in Basra attack

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Four vital facilities’ security guards on Sunday were wounded in an explosive charge attack that targeted their vehicle in western Basra, according to a local media source. “A sticky improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a vehicle belonging to the vital facilities’ department in al-Zubeir district near al-Jame Mosque, western Basra,” the media office of Basra’s police told IraqiNews.com. The blast injured four security guards, including a brother of Bassem al-Mousawi, a current provincial council member and a candidate for the upcoming local elections who survived an assassination bid earlier today, it noted. A local source told IraqiNews.com that Mousawi had survived an assassination attempt when an explosive device stuck to his car went off immediately after he had got out of it. The Shiite province of Basra lies 590 km south of the capital Baghdad. SS (P) 1
