Iraq to receive Green Zone security file next Thursday

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi security forces will receive the security file of the fortified Green Zone next Thursday, the official spokesman for the Baghdad operations command said on Tuesday. “Iraqi forces will receive the security file of the Green Zone from the Multi-National Forces next Thursday,” General Qassem Atta told IraqiNews.com. “Mass media will be invited to attend this ceremony,” he added. Maj. General Abdelkareem Khalaf, the director of the interior ministry’s National Command Center had said on December 25 that a security commission was set up to receive Baghdad’s heavily-fortified Green Zone from the U.S. forces early next year. The Green Zone is home to many sensitive government departments, the cabinet, parliament and the U.S. and British embassies as well as al-Rasheed Hotel. SH (P)/SR 1
