IHEC to approve women’s quota

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) is waiting for the women’s quota bill to be approved by its Board of Commissioners, to preserve women’s rights in the upcoming provincial elections, according to an IHEC official. “Either today or tomorrow, the board will approve a quota of 25 percent for women in the upcoming provincial elections,” Waleed al-Zaidi told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The bill has been thoroughly studied for a period of two months using international theories,” he said. “International experts helped the commission draft the bill,” he added.
