Senior Sadrist figure demands to replace parliament speakership

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Lawmaker Ahmed al-Masaodi, a senior figure of the Sadr movement, on Tuesday demanded the resignation or replacement of the Iraqi Parliament’s speakership represented by the speaker’s deputies, Khalid al-Attiya and Arif Tayfor, describing them as working in their bloc’s interests and not the peoples. “Al-Attiya is not suitable to lead the parliament due to his partisan and sectarian inclinations,” al-Masaodi told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Al-Attiya is considered a representative of the Iraqi Parliament, a matter that is totally rejected,” he said. “Everyday al-Attiya introduces new mechanisms to pass laws, as per his bloc and government’s interests,” he added. “The demand to replace al-Attiya and Tayfor was presented by the majority of parliamentary blocs, and should be discussed in a serious way,” he noted.
