10 killed, 8 wounded in Iraq in 17 hours

Iraq-Summary BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: 10 people were killed and eight others were wounded in the violent acts that took place throughout Iraq during the last 17 hours, from 9:00 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 7) until 2:00 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 8). The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) said on Thursday that a U.S. soldier was killed by hostile fire in northern Iraq. A civilian was injured on Thursday by unknown gunmen in central Baghdad, a police source said. Six Iraqi army soldiers were killed and three others were wounded on Thursday in two explosions in southern Jalawlaa, a police source said. Two Iraqi army soldiers were killed and two others were wounded on Thursday when an improvised explosive device went off targeting an Iraqi army vehicle in the southwest of Kirkuk, the chief of the local police said. Two cleaning workers from Mosul municipality were wounded in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the downtown of the city, a police source said on Wednesday.
