UIA, KA agree to IAF’s candidate for speaker

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Shiite United Iraqi Alliance (UIA) and the Kurdistan Alliance (KA) have agreed on the candidate of the Iraqi Accord Front (IAF) for the position of the Iraqi Parliament’s speaker, according to a parliamentarian from the front. “The front’s candidate for the position of the speaker has won the approval of the UIA and the KA, which will vote in his favor during a parliamentary session today,” Nour al-Din al-Hayali told IraqiNews.com news agency. The parliamentarian refused to reveal the name of the candidate. Mahmoud al-Mashhadani stepped down as Parliament speaker following a heated argument with members of parliamentary committees, during which he allegedly used “offensive” language that prompted many parliamentarians to call for his resignation.
