48,000 election observers in Thi-Qar

THI-QAR / IraqiNews.com: A total of 48,000 observers, in addition to an international team, will monitor provincial council elections in Thi-Qar, the media chief of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) in the province said on Tuesday. “One hundred journalists will be assigned to cover elections in the province,” Qassem Mohammed Shawil told IraqiNews.com news agency. A total of 1,069 candidates are competing in the provincial elections in Thi-Qar, which will take place on January 31. Nassiriya, the capital city of Thi-Qar province, lies 380 km south of Baghdad.
