Candidate assassinated in Mosul

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: A candidate running in the local elections was assassinated by unidentified gunmen in western Mosul on Thursday, according to an official police source in Ninewa province. “Unidentified gunmen opened fire on Thursday evening at Hazem Sallam Ahmed, a candidate in the provincial council elections, near his home in al-Amil district, western Mosul, killing him instantly and escaping to an unknown place,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. The killed candidate belonged to the Iraqi Unity List led by Ahmed al-Nada, an advisor to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki for tribal affairs, the source added, not giving further details.
