Mosul vehicle ban lifted

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: A vehicle ban in the city of Mosul was lifted on Sunday two days after it was put into effect within preparations for the country’s provincial council elections, a security source in the city said. “Vehicles were allowed to move about in Mosul today after the ban was lifted,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. Earlier on Sunday (Feb. 1), a security source with the Ninewa Operations Command (NOC) said that the traffic ban in the city was not yet lifted. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. Ballot stations in 14 Iraqi provinces have closed their doors at 06:00 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 31) after 11-hour marathon voting with high turnout from the country’s 15 million eligible voters to choose candidates for the provincial councils amidst quiet all over Iraq save some incidents in some of the areas, according to observers.
