3,000 removed from special votes in Thi-Qar

THI-QAR / IraqiNews.com: The Thi-Qar electoral commission unveiled that a total of 2854 votes have been removed from the special voting until now out of the 22,000 who took part in the elections. “We removed 2854 votes after three days of counting the votes in 10 centers, including 36 electoral stations,” Adel Abdulaziz told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Their votes were canceled because of repeating the voting or giving false data,” he also said. On Saturday (Jan. 31), voters headed to polling stations in Baghdad and 13 other Iraqi provinces to elect their representatives in the country’s provincial councils amidst tight security measures. Over 15 million voters participated in the election, according to the IHEC. Security personnel, prisoners sentenced to less than five years and hospital-bound cast early ballots in the special voting, held on Wednesday (Jan. 28). Nassiriya, the capital of Thi-Qar, lies 380 km south of Baghdad. SH (P)/SR 2
