UNDP assesses Nassiriya marsh projects

THI-QAR / IraqiNews.com: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Tuesday held a meeting to assess 10 projects scheduled to be carried out as part of a local development plan in al-Jabayesh marshlands. “The assessment aims to find the best means of completing these projects in the coming period,” a UNDP coordinator, Engineer Jalal al-Asadi, told IraqiNews.com news agency. The meeting was attended by directors of local service institutions and municipal council members from al-Jabayesh. In cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Planning, the UNESCO, the UNICEF, the WHO, the UNIFEM, the UNEP and the UNFPA has developed a five-year plan to develop al-Jabayesh marshlands. Al-Jabayesh lies 95 km east of Nassiriya and stands over an area of 600 square kilometers with a total population of 38,000. Nassiriya, the capital city of Thi-Qar province, is 385 km south of Baghdad. SS (P) 1
