Iraqi signs MoUs with Germany

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq on Tuesday signed a number of Memorandum of Understandings with the German side, the official spokesman for the Iraqi government said. “Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and a number of ministers met with the visiting German delegation led by Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, with whom they signed a Memorandum of Understanding for scientific and academic cooperation,” Ali al-Dabbagh said in a statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “They also agreed to set up the Iraqi-German University in Iraq with financial and technical support from Germany,” he added. “Another memo was signed between Iraq’s electricity minister and Siemens to develop cooperation and training in the electricity sector,” he added. Steinmeier had arrived in Baghdad earlier in the day. The top German diplomat will leave Baghdad for the Kurdish region’s capital Arbil on Wednesday to inaugurate the German consulate there. Steinmeier’s visit to Iraq is the first by a top German official since 2003.   SH (P)/SR 1
