Demonstration in Basra to free detainees in Saudi, Iranian jails

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Scores of the civil society organizations in Basra staged a demonstration in front of the human rights office, demanding to free the Iraqi detainees in the Saudi and Iranian jails. “The demonstration which was launched today (March 4) aims to show solidarity with the Iraqi detainees in the Saudi and Iranian jails,” Maki al-Tamemi, who supervised the demonstration, told IraqiNews.com news agency. “There are more than 600 detainees in the Saudi jails, some of them received death sentences without perpetrating a crime, while the Iraqi government had freed the Saudi prisoners who are suspected of terrorist acts,” he explained. “The demonstration started from the Basra council until the human right office and was organized by a number of civil society organizations in the city,” he also said.
