PM says elections results suspend enemies’ plans to divide Iraq

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Wednesday said that the results of the recent local elections suspended the plans of what he termed as ‘Iraq’s enemies’ to divide it. This came during his meeting with a number of chieftains in Baghdad, according to a statement of his office. “Al-Maliki said that the elections results stopped the destructive steps against Iraq,” said the statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “We congratulate everyone who took part in the recent elections,” he added. A total of 14 out of 18 provinces witnessed on January 31 the provincial council elections in a new experience, considered by political analysts as successful. SH (P) 1
