AL chief stresses support for Iraqi political process

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa on Tuesday stressed his support for the political process in Iraq, highlighting the progress that Iraq has made towards a stable state. “We hope that this progress will continue…,” Moussa said today in a joint press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zibari in Baghdad. Commenting on the scheduled withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, Moussa said that Iraq should be ready to take over full security responsibilities from the coalition forces. On Monday (March 16) evening, Moussa arrived in Iraq and met with Deputy Prime Minister Burham Saleh, Defense Minister Abdelqadir Mohammed Jassem, Interior Minister Jawad al-Bulani and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed al-Dulaymi. Earlier today, the Arab League chief met with Premier Nouri al-Maliki and expressed Arab countries’ support for Iraq’s national reconciliation project. SS (P) 1
